Rainy Day? It’s a great time to get your home market ready

Its quite dreary here in Raleigh, NC today. Major storms are passing through our area and it makes me want to curl up with my new puppy and ignore the world. But the busy spring home market is here and ignoring life is not an option today. Here are some great ways to work on the inside of your home during this rainy day and get it ready to sell.

  1. Organize closets – Buyers want to know that your home has adequate storage and unfortunately a messy, packed closet does not convey that message.
  2. Organize and clean out kitchen cabinets – You know that junk drawer and junk cabinet where everything you don’t know what to do with lands? Clean it out today! Buyers open every door and they want to see that your kitchen has good storage.
  3. Get childrens’ toys under control – Clean out and organize the playroom and/or children’s bedrooms.
  4. Paint – I know you absolutely love the exotic blue tone you painted your dining room, but unless the entire room is completely on trend and a professionally designed space, the likelihood that it will scare a buyer is high. Neutralize paint colors and think light and bright. I recommend greige tones like Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter or Sherwin Williams Repose Grey.  If choosing paint is a challenge for you, call me, I have great paint experts that are worth their hourly fee.
  5. Schedule contractors – Today is a great day to spend indoors talking with handy-folks and contractors about work that may need to be done in your home – painters, power washers, roof cleaners, etc.
  6. Clean the areas you rarely (or never) clean – Your house needs to sparkle, so get out the vacuum and cleaners and tackle blinds, ceiling fans, baseboards and chair rails, wipe out bookcases, wipe down cabinets inside and out, clean under the refrigerator and stove, clean interior windows and glass in cabinets.

Use this rainy day to your advantage and let’s get your home on the market in April!
